Andrew Constance says rail drivers like the overtime

Article image for Andrew Constance says rail drivers like the overtime

Monday’s strike is off, with industrial action suspended for six weeks by the Fair Work Commission.

Ross Greenwood speaks with Minister for Transport Andrew Constance to find out if he is pleased with the decision.

“Absolutely, that’s why I pressed the button on going to Fair Work after we had tried to negotiate in good faith for the best part of a week to reach an agreement.

When asked about Alex Claassens’ group text debacle, the minister tells Ross he was not impressed.

“It was really not the type of [action] that we expected from a union leader.

“About six percent of shifts are done on an overtime basis and that’s always been the case.

“A lot of the drivers to like the overtime because it does add to their income.”
