Another major asbestos embarrassment for Blue Mountains City Council

The Blue Mountains City Council saga continues with yet another site, originally cleared of asbestos dangers, found riddled with the dangerous material.

Safe Work NSW licenced asbestos assessors SLR Consulting issued a clearance certificate for the council’s Katoomba depot last weekend.

On Monday when workers returned to the site they found a significant amount of dust which was later confirmed to contain deadly asbestos fibres.

It’s not the first stuff-up by SLR Consulting. They also wrongly cleared the council’s Springwood depot of asbestos material in January.

Ray Hadley can’t believe they’re still operating after two major lapses.

“What in God’s name is SLR Consulting doing still having a licence?

“The remarkable thing is, the imbeciles at Blue Mountains City Council are still retaining SLR Consulting.”

A SakeWork spokesperson says, “SafeWork NSW will be conducting an audit of licenced asbestos work undertaken across Blue Mountains City Council.”
