Asbestos embarrassment continues for Blue Mountains City Council
Blue Mountains City Council is continuing to fail the community as more asbestos mismanagement allegations come to light.
Safe Work NSW attended Wentworth Falls Preschool on Monday with council staff to inspect the site but the visit was cut short when an up-to-date asbestos register wasn’t available.
On Tuesday, they returned to the site and undertook minor work on sections of bonded asbestos cement material to ensure it was maintained with a sealant.
Ray Hadley has asked Minister for Better Regulation, Matt Kean, what it’s going to take to keep the community safe.
“We’re taking this very seriously. Safe Work has been all over the site and will continue to be all over the site until all parties are satisfied that what needs to be done has been done.
“We’re not going to take any chances at the preschool or at any other site.”
During the interview, staff contacted Ray claiming sections that were sealed yesterday had not been sealed previously.
Ray is now calling for Local Government Minister Gabrielle Upton to do her job.
“If that is the way this council wants to conduct their business with the very dangerous asbestos we’re in all sorts of strife.
“I’m hoping beyond hope that the minister responsible Gabrielle Upton will finally get off her backside and do something about this recalcitrantĀ council.
“What’s it going to take?”
