At-risk Muslims could get free Opera House tours in an anti-terror attempt
Muslims at risk of extremism would be given free tours of places like the Opera House, under a proposal made to the Prime Minister.
The idea was pitched to Scott Morrison in a meeting with Islamic leaders following the Bourke Street terror attack in Melbourne.
It’s expected that giving young Muslims at risk of radicalisation free tours of the cultural icons like the Opera House or Parliament House would re-engage them with society.
Counter-terrorism expert Nick O’Brien tells Ben Fordham “it wouldn’t” work.
“You could argue it would make things worse because you’d go around the cultural icons and you’d see that there was nothing there to do with your own community, and therefore you could feel more marginalised than you were before.”
