There has been confusion over the enforcement of laws cracking down on illegal protesters after NSW Roads Minister Natalie Ward yesterday confirmed it was in effect from last Friday.

NSW Parliament passed laws of up to two years’ jail and fines of up to $22,000 for those blocking major facilities, including ports and railways.

NSW Attorney-General Mark Speakman cleared the air and told Mark Levy the rules are in force as of this morning.

“You can’t do the regulations until the act is passed.

“The problem has been that the courts have not had the tools to deal with these protests, and that’s what we’re giving them now.”
