Aussie cows to get their own style of ‘fit bit’
Aussie cows could get their very own fitness trackers, in a bid to better understand Australia cattle.
The CSIRO, Meat & Livestock Australian donor company, as well as the Queensland government, have all backed Ceres Tag, a new type of ‘fit bit’.
The new piece of technology will gather similar data to smartwatches and is aimed at helping farmers understand their cattle by tracking their health, weight, temperature and whereabouts.
Ceres Tag CEO David Smith tells Ross Greenwood farmers need the data.
“We needed more data on our animals to understand where they were, what they’re doing and of course, what condition they’re in.”
The device attaches to the ear and has an inbuilt solar panel to generate power.
