‘We need to crack down’: Australia to introduce tough new vaping rules
The Albanese government will move to ban disposable vapes, including those that do not contain nicotine, in a major crackdown.
Vapes which contain nicotine are already illegal without a prescription, but a lack of enforcement and legal loopholes have allowed sales to flourish.
Under new changes, Australians will still be able to buy low-nicotine vapes for therapeutic purposes, but only if they’re prescribed by a doctor.
NSW Deputy Premier and Education Minister, Prue Car, has put a tender out for tens of thousands of vape detectors to be supplied throughout schools, telling Deborah Knight that there “needs to be consequences”.
“We need to crack down when there is a ban in place…and we will be making a decision shortly,” said Minister Car.
