Australia will scale up the manufacturing of AdBlue amid a global shortage. 

The federal government has struck a deal with fertiliser manufacturer Incitec Pivot.

AdBlue, which is injected into the exhaust systems of modern diesel vehicles to reduce emissions, and is also a large component in fertiliser.

Minister for Industry, Energy and Emissions Reduction Angus Taylor told Joe Hildebrand domestic production will be underway in six weeks.

“They’ve got to add something into their traditional agricultural urea to purify it and that can be done in tanks.

“They’ve got to get the tanking facility in place, so it can be very, very fast.”

This agreement is on top of a deal with Indonesia to import 5,000 tonnes of urea next month.

“Having some additional imports is an extra insurance policy.”
