Australian former professional golfer Jack Newton has died, aged 72.

Newton had an incredible career between 1971 and 1983, before losing his arm to an aeroplane propeller.

His family has released a statement, saying he suffered “health complications” and his “passion for sport and the community will live on”.

Golf Broadcast commentator Luke Elvy told Luke Grant, that Jack truly was a “maverick mate”.

“I could tell endless stories of the joys he brought to many people.”

“He was golf.”
