Barnaby Joyce tips ‘Monday morning’s exploits’ for embattled Coalition
Barnaby Joyce is warning independent candidates against siding with ‘socialists’ as he concedes the Coalition won’t form a majority government.
Speaking with John Stanley and Scott Emerson, the Nationals leader said he doesn’t expect any party will be able to form a majority government.
“No one’s going to get a majority government out of this,” he said. “I think that’s fair to say. It’s going to be a sort of minority government.”
“I don’t know whether the independents in inner-urban seats … want to support the socialists or whether they want to support the Coalition.
“It’s a choice for them to make.”
He wouldn’t be drawn in to speculation the Coalition lost seats because it moved too far left.
“No doubt that’s Monday morning’s exploits,” he said. “I’ll just say to your listeners once more: the Nats have gone out and won every seat that they stood in, probably picked up one in Lingiari and possibly picked up two with Hunter.
“What more can you ask of us, we’ve done out job.”
