Barrister who took down Eddie Obeid says $30 million can be recovered
The barrister who helped expose Eddie Obeid at ICAC says all avenues should be explored to return taxpayers’ money.
The NSW Crime Commission reopened its efforts in recovering $30 million in proceeds of crime after declaring there were no assets under Eddie Obeid’s name and therefore the money couldn’t be seized.
Former ICAC Senior Counsel Geoffrey Watson told Ben Fordham he doesn’t understand why it’s taken years and the money still hasn’t been recouped.
“We could never ever understand why they seemed to have surrendered it so quickly.”
