Ben Fordham reveals major price hike coming for Aussies taking waste to the tip
Ben Fordham is calling out a plan to hike up the price of waste disposal by five times the current rate.
The NSW Environmental Protection Authority is proposing to scrap the traditional flat cost of a skip bin in favour of a weighing system from July this year.
It comes after a testing crackdown on a growing number of chemicals that are ending up in recycling.
But Ben says “the cost consequences are devastating” for small businesses.
One skip bin owner said “the cost of a 3 cubic metre container will go from $440 to $2,100”
“This will be carnage for the industry,” Ben said.
“It will lead to an increase in illegal dumping.”
The waste industry has an urgent meeting with the EPA on Monday.
