Ben Fordham teams up with local pub to offer free beer… but there’s a catch
It’s warm, very warm, but Ben Fordham has your back.
Chatting with Bill Smith, publican at the Abbott’s Hotel in Redfern, the pair agrees to offer up free beer on Monday, IF temperatures hit 45°.
Last year, the pub set up a ‘beer-o-meter’ with a scale for the price of schooners:
45° = Free
42° = $2.80
40° = $2.80
38° = $3.80
He tells Ben when he saw punters crowded at the bar, he got “very nervous”.
Initially saying he’d give it another go in “the cooler months”, Bill says he’ll tee up the promotion again with Ben for Monday.

It comes after an Adelaide pub pinched Bill’s idea, except it didn’t quite go to plan… because they ran out of beer.
Red Lion Hotel manager Stephen Firth tells Ben he’s got “no regrets”.
“Ah look, it’s still a good idea… I got into this industry to buy people beers, so it’s good.”
