The Lane Cove Tunnel was closed for 11 hours over the weekend, following an overheight truck’s attempt to enter the tunnel on Saturday, which “tore the roof apart”.

The government has increased penalties for overheight vehicles using maximum height tunnels to over $4,000, and 12 demerit points, which has seen Saturday’s truck driver lose his license for 12 months.

NSW Minister for Roads, John Graham, told Ray Hadley “This is a big problem” and “The penalties have not stopped the incidents”.

“A good driver knows the height of their truck. A good driver would never have this happen,” said Minister Graham.

Listen to hear what the Minister is planning to do to fix the problem.
