‘Bizarre at best’: Sydney Lord Mayor accused of campaign double standard

Article image for ‘Bizarre at best’: Sydney Lord Mayor accused of campaign double standard

Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore has been accused by her opposition of a hypocritical approach to election campaign materials.

Candidates in the upcoming council election have been ordered to remove posters from public and private land, however Clover Moore’s signs have been spotted across the city.

Independent Lord Mayoral candidate Yvonne Weldon told Jim Wilson it’s a double standard.

“It’s one rule for Clover’s opponents, and another rule for Clover.

“This is a denial of my constitutionally guaranteed freedom of political communications.”

The prohibition on displaying campaign materials on private land in the first instance, she said, is “bizarre at best.”

The Lord Mayor’s office has told Drive posters erected early will be removed until the campaign period officially begins on October 30, but Ms Weldon says it’s too late.
