‘Bloody frustrating’: Premier wants courts to ‘throw the book’ at illegal protesters
NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet is expressing his frustration with weak penalties given to illegal protesters.
Parliament passed laws of up to two years’ jail and fines of up to $22,000 for those blocking major facilities including ports and railways.
However, protesters have only received fines of a couple of hundred dollars.
Mr Perrottet told Ben Fordham magistrates should be applying the harsher penalties.
“It’s bloody frustrating.
“The magistrates should be throwing the book at them”.
