A search and rescue mission is underway for an Australian man who went overboard on a Royal Caribbean cruise in Hawaii at about 11:00pm last night.

The ship left Brisbane 15 days ago, headed to Honolulu, and tracking data shows that it stopped last night after the Australian man was reported to have fallen.

The US Coast Guard and military aircraft are leading this search, which continues this morning.

2GB listener, Mark, has family onboard the ship and told Ben Fordham that the man who went overboard was believed to be the partner of someone who passed away, following a medical emergency on the ship. However, Royal Caribbean later quashed those reports, saying the incidents were not connected.

The search is expected to continue on Friday.
