Newcastle’s Argyle House nightclub cluster allegedly started by isolation absconder
The NSW Health Minister will refer a person to police over an allegation they breached health authorities’ order to self-isolate.
Brad Hazzard confirmed exclusively to Chris O’Keefe the number of cases associated with Newcastle’s Argyle House nightclub have soared into the hundreds.
“Out of the roughly 650 to 680 people that were there at the club on Wednesday 8th December … there’s now more than 200 patrons who are positive to COVID.”
The variant of the infections is yet to be confirmed, but are believed to be the Omicron variant.
After attending a boat party on Sydney Harbour, the initial case was told to self-isolate for seven days but instead is believed to have travelled to the Hunter region, attending the Newcastle venue while infectious, Mr Hazzard said.
“If that’s the case, I’ve asked for Health to refer that person as soon as possible … to police.
“Individual responsibility has to play a part here.”
