NSW legalises voluntary assisted dying
NSW has become the last state to legalise voluntary assisted dying.
The bill passed the upper house 23-15 before being sent back to the lower house for final approval.
MPs spent more than eight hours debating nearly 100 amendments on Wednesday but have finally come to a decision today.
Voluntary assisted dying advocate Andrew Denton told Deborah Knight he is overcome with a lot of emotion amid the announcement and its means “a lot” to families.
“It’s a great vindication … and offers hope to others,” he said.
“It’s an evolution of compassion in our society.”
