NSW’s vaccine passport app to be trialled in the regions
The NSW government has revealed plans to trial vaccine passports within the Service NSW app from early next month.
Customer Service Minister Victor Dominello announced consultation with industry around the design of the app is already underway.
A trial of the new system will commence on October 6 in the regions for two weeks, with specific locations to be determined.
“We decided against Sydney because we don’t want to create the honeypot effect: if you create one location in Sydney everyone will be drawn to it, whereas in the regions they’re already quasi-opened up anyway.
“We’re looking at industries such as clubs, aged care facilities. It’s going to be a closed pilot for between 100 and 500 people.”
Proof of vaccination is currently available through the federal government’s Express Plus Medicare app.
Mr Dominello confirmed if the state hits 70 per cent fully-vaccinated prior to the conclusion of the Service NSW trial, the reopening will go ahead as planned relying on existing methods of proving vaccination status.
