Father and son confirmed dead in NSW bushfires
Two men, a father and his son, have been killed as a result of bushfires on the NSW south coast.
RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons said NSW is experiencing the worst bushfire season on record as eight dangerous fires burned between Nowra and the Victorian border on Tuesday.
Police have confirmed the bodies of a 62-year-old man and his 29-year-old son have been found at a house at Wandella, about 10km north-west of Cobargo.
A woman has told police she left the property on Sunday night, but her husband and son stayed behind to defend the home.
A 72-year-old man is still missing at Belowra, and police say they hold grave concerns for his welfare.
NSW Acting Emergency Services Minister Anthony Roberts tells Natalie Peters and Erin Molan it’s a horrendous situation.
“We have identified the bodies of one elderly man and his son… at Belowra there’s a potential other death that is yet to be confirmed.”
