Man shot dead at North Willoughby
A critical incident investigation is underway following a police shooting in North Willoughby this morning.
Just before 11.30am today (Thursday 25 May 2023), officers from North Shore Police Area Command were called to Alexander Avenue, following reports a man was threatening residents.
The two responding officers were allegedly confronted by a man, who was armed with two knives, before a constable discharged their firearm.
The man died at the scene.
There were no other injuries reported.
A critical incident team from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad will investigate all circumstances surrounding the man’s death, including the discharge of a police firearm.
The investigation will be subject to an independent review and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

A sudden eruption of gunshots has been heard in the North Willoughby area. A police operation is underway.
Early reports suggest a serious incident has unfolded involving the police and another individual.
It is believed the shooting occurred near a Harris Farm located at the intersection of Alexander Ave and High Street in North Willoughby shortly after noon on Thursday.
Ben Fordham was in the vicinity and called Deborah to provide details. “First and foremost for anyone around the area, if you can be aware that there is a very serious police operation that is underway around Willoughby at the moment,” he said.
UPDATE: Police have confirmed that the man died at the scene.
