Brumby advocates targeted on Facebook after herd’s slaughter

Brumby advocacy groups on Facebook are being swamped with reports on posts about the recent slaughter of a herd.

11 horses, including multiple heavily-pregnant mares, were wiped out in a shooting on Sunday morning that left them to painfully bleed to death.

It’s been confirmed NSW Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), which remains tight-lipped about controversial culling operations, was responsible for the incident.

Michelle and Ian Brown raised the alarm on the extermination of the herd, via their Facebook page, where they share photos of wild horses in the area.

Ms Brown has told Ray Hadley she’s received alerts that some of her posts, which showed the dead horses, have breached community standards.

While there is no way of telling who reported the posts to Facebook, she suspects NPWS was behind the influx.

“It’s clear their media team is doing some serious damage control,” Ray said. “She won’t be silenced and nor will I, Michelle.

“If they’re going to try and monster Facebook to stop publishing these images that are a result of their actions, well I’ll publish them instead.”
