Budget cuts tax to craft brewers, a form of ‘brewer’s droop’
Beer drinkers can expect a sweet deal in next week’s budget as the Federal Government removes a tax on craft brewers.
Craft beer makers are currently slugged 40% more for the production process because they use smaller kegs.
Finance Minister Mathias Cormann says the rules will now be changed so all producers are taxed the same way.
Smithy’s All-Star Prue MacSween says it’s Treasuer Scott Morrison’s attempt at “playing to the crowd”.
“He’s got his budget coming up, he’s sat there and thought ‘okay, what can I do to play to the masses? But we won’t go all the way, we’ll just do craft beer’.
“We should also call it a form of brewer’s droop.
“The stupid thing is, while they’re painting it as a small business, most of them are owned by the multinationals anyway.”
