Calls for the government to release report into bloody prison riot

The NSW opposition is calling for the immediate release of an independent review into a bloody riot at a Central Coast juvenile detention centre.

Inmates at the Frank Baxter Juvenile Detention Centre staged a 21-hour riot, jumping onto the roof and injuring at least seven people.

NSW Minister for Communities Gareth Ward had announced the independent inquiry would be due August 21.

However, despite acknowledging that he is looking at more than 60 recommendations from the report he hasn’t released it to the public.

When NSW Shadow Minister for Juvenile Justice Jihad Dib asked when the report would be handed over he was met with insults by Minister Ward.

Minister Dib tells Ray Hadley they need to know what recommendations have been made.

“Put the report out there, let’s try to work through the recommendations to see what it is that we can do because this system is in desperate need of a fix.

“I’m happy to work with Gareth… in trying to find a resolution to this.”
