Cameron Smith shoots record round to claim British Open crown
Aussie golf star Cameron Smith has shot a course record equalling final round to claim a historic British Open win at St Andrews.
The 28 year old sailed past leader Rory Mcilroy, shooting an eight under 64 to become the fifth Australian to raise the Claret Jug.
“It really hasn’t sunk in yet, I don’t think it will for a few weeks – it’s just unreal,” Smith said in his victory speech.
Former pro golfer Matt Guyatt joined Mark Levy and Billy Slater on WWOS to take a look at the historic win.
“When he turned into the back nine … and made five birdies in a row … I think there was a lot of Queenslanders making a lot of noise,” he said.
“His putting was unbelievable … once he starts rolling the ball in I think it must look as big as a bucket.”
