A fire has broken out at old Parliament House in Canberra.

Firefighters are responding.

Protesters near the site can reportedly be heard chanting “let it burn”.

It’s not known if the fire was intentionally lit.

Last week, a fire at the front door of Old Parliament House saw the museum forced to close.

Nine News reporter Rachel Baxter told Joe Hildebrand protestors are still milling around the building.

“It’s sort of unclear what they’re protesting at the moment but it’s clear they don’t like the media.”

“One of our cameramen was punched a little bit earlier and there’s been quite a bit of violence here.”
