Beijing has dismissed speculation it intends to build a military base on the Solomon Islands, insisting such claims are “completely fabricated”.

Australian Strategic Policy Institute’s Director of Defence Michael Shoebridge told Ben Fordham China said the same thing about the prospect of a war in Ukraine.

“Well, we know what happened.”

He said China’s denials “are not credible”.
