Chinese telco Huawei accused of conspiracy, fraud and theft
The US Justice Department is charging China’s Huawei Technologies with fraud and theft of intellectual property.
The company is being accused of stealing technology, violating trade sanctions and lying to banks.
Charges include bank fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud and violating the International Emergency Economic Powers.
It comes after the arrest of Huawei’s chief financial officer, Meng Wanzhou, in Canada in December.
In a statement, Huawei says, “The company denies that it or its subsidiary or affiliate have committed any of the asserted violations of US law”.
Australian Strategic Policy Institute executive director Peter Jennings says “it’s the result of over a decade-worth of investigations”.
