Chris Minns slams ‘outrageous’ Sydney congestion tax
NSW Opposition Leader Chris Minns has slammed a London-style congestion tax proposed for Sydney.
A report obtained by 9News, which is yet to be considered by NSW Cabinet, says charging for road use at certain locations or times can encourage commuters to choose alternative travel options.
The proposal is similar to one currently in place in the UK where drivers pay a $25 daily fee to drive within 25 square kilometres of the city of London.
Mr Minns told Ray Hadley the government is out of touch.
“I don’t think there’s any understanding at how tough families are doing it across NSW and this is just going to hit them right in the hip pocket.”

Active Transport Minister Rob Stokes says the “thought bubble” is not government policy.
“There is simply no case for a congestion tax in a city like Sydney.”
