The Cooks River Fun Run – which raises funds for bowel cancer – has been cancelled for no good reason by Strathfield Council Mayor, Karen Pensabene.

Chris O’Keefe has slammed Mayor Karen Pensabene for the decision, saying she is “evasive, unresponsive and hell-bent on cancelling good community events”.

“They won’t put their hand in their pocket for the fun run, but they’re expecting locals to pay 72 per cent more over 4 years on rates,” said Chris.

Strathfield Council has said they don’t want people from outside the LGA to run in the event.

Kerry Bray is a local runner who is devstated to learn that the Cooks River Fun Run has been shut down.

“I’ve never heard of any organisers banning people who live outside the area,” Kerry told Chris.
