Clive Palmer’s United Australia Party is expected to announce a preference deal with the Coalition on Monday. 

The Coalition has previously been criticised for its promise to preference Pauline Hanson’s One Nation below Labor.

Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton tells Ray Hadley preference deals don’t even matter if voters number all the boxes.

“In the end we want people to vote 1 for their Liberal or National Party candidate, to complete each box so that the vote is valid.

“In many cases that will make the preference arrangements irrelevant.”
