Coal-fire power competitor says it’s ‘madness’ to close Liddell
A direct competitor of Liddell coal-fired power station says it’s “an integral part of the energy mix” for Australia’s ongoing requirements.
Snowy Hydro CEO Paul Broad tells Ross Greenwood it’s “madness” to consider closing the plant.
“Snowy 2.0 can’t replace baseload power,” he says.
“No way could that alone replace Liddell.”
He tells Ross Australia needs coal-fired power stations in order to have sustainable and reliable power.
“You cannot exist by closing all of those coal-fired power plants.
“We’re going to have coal in the system for at least the next 50 years. It is an integral part of the energy mix.”
