Commissioner explains why new rapid-build prison was built in record time
The NSW Corrective Services Commissioner has revealed how a recently opened NSW prison managed to be completed in record time.
The Macquarie Correctional Centre in Wellington is a 400-bed, maximum-security correctional centre for male inmates.
Kevin Corcoran told Ray Hadley the prison has taken a different path to more conventional prisons across the country.
“We needed beds as fast as possible, so we had a design which didn’t have any cells, which is how it was able to be completed at high-speed.”
“The prison took about 14 months from start to finish, which is an incredible achievement.”
