Contraceptive pill almost kills an MP’s daughter
Popular acne drug and “off-label” contraceptive Diane-35 ED has been linked to two deaths.
The drug is registered in Australia to treat acne and excessive hair growth, but is routinely prescribed “off-label” as a contraceptive.
One woman who had an incredibly close call from using the drug is Lauren Dean, the daughter of federal Labor MP Julian Hill.
Mr Hill tells Chris Kenny about the effects the pill had on his daughter.
“It was a really scary event.
“My daughter was prescribed this drug to regulate irregular periods, without any warning that it was an ‘off-label’ prescription.
“She was rushed to hospital with a very life-threating blood clot.
“There will be lifelong impacts.”
