An aviation expert is calling on Australia to introduce electric planes.

Co-founder and CEO of Dovetail Electric Aviation, David Doral told Joe Hildebrand electric planes could see the return of short-haul flights, because they are cheaper to operate.

David said the technology is in the developmental stages and could be more competitive than a normal jet-fuelled plane.

“They would be more reliable and safer because you have less moving parts and they are cheaper and more affordable to operate and maintain,” he said.
