NSW residents are being encouraged to vote ahead of local government elections on Saturday.

Pre-polling has been open to anybody in the two weeks before the election day, as part of COVID measures.

In addition, how-to-vote cards must not be handed out within 100m of the polling booths to help encourage social distancing.

NSW Electoral Commissioner John Schmidt told Ray Hadley pre-polling numbers have been down.

“People are out and about now, our pre-poll places are open … the aim is to try to relieve some of the pressure and crowding on election day.”
