Council rates set to increase, leaving residents struggling
Residents living in the Hawkesbury City Council area will have their rates increased by close to 30% over the next three years.
The Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal has given the green light to increase rates, 7% more than the rate peg set for this financial year.
Liberal Councillor Sarah Richards tells Ben Fordham many people will struggle with the steep price hike.
“Some of the residents had their rates doubled basically overnight… from $1,900 to $4,100 for actual no added benefit.”
She says after extensive community consultation, two-thirds of the feedback received said the residents “did not endorse the way forward”.
