‘Critical for your wellbeing’: Why community engagement is so important
Research has shown that community engagement and having a “confidante” is important for improving mental health and preventing dementia.
A recent article by the Sydney Morning Herald, showcased the importance of having a hub for community gatherings when a group of locals raised funds to save Coledale RSL from closing down.
CEO of Relationships Australia (NSW), Elisabeth Shaw, told Deborah Knight that engaging with your community can be “critical for your well-being”.
“For people suffering from dementia, it’s good to have a place where they are known, understood and can have a familiar transaction,” said Ms Shaw.
