Cruise industry calls for date for industry to restart
The cruise industry say they are being left behind as Australia’s border reopens to international arrivals.
From February 21 fully vaccinated travellers will be able to enter the country without quarantining.
However, there’s been no date given as to when cruises can restart.
Managing Director of Cruise Line International Association, Joel Katz, said a dispute between state and federal governments is delaying the reopening.
“You spoke to the Premier yesterday, Deb (knight) spoke to him earlier, he’s saying the right things, he’s keen to see cruising return,” he said on 2GB Drive.
“But he’s also saying that it’s up to the federal government because they control the border.
“At the same time the federal government are saying it’s up to the states because they control the ports.
“What we need, and what the 18,000 Australians who rely on the industry need, is for the two levels of government to come together and sort this out.”
