Cyclists should be referred to as ‘people who ride bikes’, researchers say
Researchers are calling for cyclists to be referred to as ‘people who ride bikes’ with fears the term ‘cyclist’ dehumanises them.
The study reveals 55 per cent of those who participated said cyclists were not ‘completely human’.
Queensland University of Technology Professor and co-author of the study, Narelle Haworth, tells Ben Fordham the perception of a cyclist does not fit the person riding the bike.
“I’m a person who rides a bike to get to work.
“I’m happy to be ‘that old bird on a bike’.”
