Ben Fordham has delivered an emotional message explaining why he has decided to return to the airwaves following the death of his father.

After initially announcing he would take the rest of the year off to spend time with his terminally ill father, Ben has today returned to work, citing his late father as his inspiration.

Iconic media man John Fordham succumbed to an ongoing battle with throat cancer on November 10, surrounded by family members.

Ben tells his listeners he’s decided to return to work because it’s what his dad would’ve wanted.

“I’m going to miss him but I’m back on the radio because my boss Tom Malone said to me last week it’d probably be best for me to have something to focus on.

“And I think he was right… dad would’ve agreed.

“There are people around Australia at the moment who are dealing with bushfires, dealing with drought, and all sorts of other things. That puts things in context when I consider my own family tragedy.”
