Rugby league legend and Nine commentator Darren Lockyer is backing NRL expansion side The Dolphins to be competitive in their inaugural season.

The Dolphins face the Roosters in their season-opening match on Sunday.

However, Lockyer has questioned whether the club has the “strike that they need to win regularly”, after failing to land a major marquee signing.
