Darren Lockyer joins Ben Fordham’s campaign to move the NRL Grand Final to Brisbane
NRL legend Darren Lockyer says there’s no better time for the NRL Grand Final to finally make the move to Brisbane.
With the future of the NRL Grand Final up in limbo as Sydney stadiums undergo refurbishment, many are making the case for a move to Suncorp Stadium.
The 2020 Grand Final is due to be held at the Sydney Cricket Ground, which Ben Fordham has dubbed “the worst venue to watch Rugby League in Australia”.
Brisbane Broncos and Maroons legend Darren Lockyer says there’s no better time for the game to move to one of Australia’s best stadiums.
“We’ve been talking about hosting the Grand Final in Brisbane for decades now and with the uncertainty around what’s happening in Sydney at the moment now’s the ideal time.”
He says his single greatest experience as a rugby league player was running out at Suncorp Stadium as the Queensland captain.
“The intensity of the crowd being so close to you and being on top of you, it’s unrivalled.”
