‘Daunting’ reality for strata lot owners after Mascot Towers evacuation
Strata lot owners could have to pay for building repairs after the Mascot Towers residents were evacuated.
Engineers evacuated the building after they became concerned about cracks in the walls of the 10-year-old apartment complex.
Apartment owners will reportedly have to foot the bill for repairs as the building is too old to come under warranty protection.
NSW State President of the Strata Community Association Chris Duggan tells Ross Greenwood this would be very stressful for the body corporate made up of “mums and dads”.
“The reality is probably daunting.
“This, whilst an unusual situation, just highlight how vulnerable strata lot owners can be.
“A lot of these issues they occur, they occur every day… but they’re dealt with very quietly and very quickly… so they can avoid having long term impacts on their value.”

Owners Corporation Network President Gary Petherbridge tells Ross Greenwood the problem is systemic.
“People shouldn’t be buying off the plan anymore, you’re better off to wait 10 years until the property is sorted out.”
