Article image for Debating the cost of safety: Shark nets or marine life?

Two key figures engage in a fierce debate over the future of shark nets.

Senior Lecturer in Public Policy at the University of Sydney, Dr Chris Pepin-Neff has spent the last 16 years researching shark nets and shark bite mitigation.

Dr Pepin-Neff told Chris O’Keefe that shark nets should be banned because they “don’t work” and only hurt marine life.

Social and Political Commentator Joe Hilderbrand argued that shark nets should not be banned because they provide a sense of safety to people.

What do you think? we’ll let you decide after hearing the full debate.
