‘Decimated’: $100m Eastern Creek Speedway shut down out of nowhere
The Eastern Creek Speedway, seemingly out of nowhere, has shut down just as the season was set to get underway. Jobs are on the line, and taxpayer’s money is in the air.
The reason why the speedway shut isn’t exactly clear, with it due potentially to drainage issues which have led to a problematic surface – or just structural issues. The shutdown happened mere days before the 2023 season was scheduled to begin – and comes after taxpayers put $100m into the facility.
“It’s just got to this. Like Sydney Speedway today is decimated. There are, so many followers of this sport around Sydney who love the sport… where it goes to from here, I don’t know”, Dennis Newlyn told Chris O’Keefe.
