Defence Minister warns against ‘unbelievably dangerous’ online conspiracy cult

Defence Minister Peter Dutton has warned Australians to watch out for the warning signs of extremism in their loved ones.

He told Ray Hadley online conspiracies such as QAnon are “unbelievably dangerous”, and federal authorities have significant concerns about the growth of such groups.

Mr Dutton slammed the “self-serving” instigators making money out of adherents with merchandise and subscriptions.

“They couldn’t care less about the health of these people that are indoctrinated; theirs is a business model and it’s a very dangerous one.

“It’s something that you should contact the police about if there’s somebody in your workplace, or within your family or friendship group that you see starting to talk like this.

“It can lead to dire circumstances.”
