Senior Liberal women have come out against the implementation of gender quotas amid calls by NSW ministers for direct measures to boost ­female MPs.

Liberal MP Dave Sharma told Ben Fordham close to half of new Coalition MPs at the 2019 election were female.

“I think we can do it without quotas.

“But I can understand people are attracted to the idea.”
