Dogs trained by inmates lead Anzac Day march

Article image for Dogs trained by inmates lead Anzac Day march

This year, Dogs for Diggers lead the Anzac Day march in Bathurst.

The initiative pairs former rescue dogs with inmates at Bathurst Correctional Centre who train them to assist returned soldiers who are suffering health issues, including post-traumatic stress disorder.

Bathurst Mayor Graeme Hanger tells Ray Hadley it’s a “first” for the community.

Four Labrador crosses being trained by inmates led this morning’s Anzac March at Bathurst.

Mr Hanger also says the program is a “win-win”, with many of the inmates going on to work in dog-related programs following their release.
